Painting the Bathtub! A wonderful toddler activity!!!

What toddler doesn't enjoy having fun making a mess? Well, mine are no exception...so I came up with a plan to make painting not only fun...but easy to clean up!

All you need:
washable finger paints
a paper or plastic plate to use as a pallette
1" paintbrush...or sponge style brush
1 or 2 dirty little kids

Run a normal bath...add kids & paint...and watch the fun as it unfolds!

NOTE OF SAFETY! DO NOT LET THEM PAINT IN TUB WITHOUT ADDING BATHWATER...IF PAINT GETS UNDER THEIR FEET IN A DRY TUB...THEY CAN FALL! If you're still concerned with them slipping...then let them wear socks! Funny to see...but I've found that keeping socks on in the tub helps prevent a fall!

Clean up is Easy Peasy! ;^)

Have you seen the new talent on Etsy lately?

LoveMary xoxo is a one woman operation based in New York. She makes original items she dubs 'little adorables from the imagination'! She opened shop just this week!

Her style is a little bit Neo Gothic, Victorian, with Euro vintage flair scattered with African and Asian splashes.

This is my favorite item in her current lineup of products...it's a lovely hand crocheted bag with satin ribbon accent in a beautiful shade of French blue! She mixes up materials in most of her items and this bag is no exception...as the detail of the chain handle against the softness of the yarn is what makes this piece a standout in my opinion!

Let's support LoveMary as she begins her entrepreneurial journey. Support artists! Buy Handmade!

Difference between Grandma & her Granddaughters...

Just a thought for the day...
Grandma set her hot baked apple pie on the window sill to cool...while her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. -unknown

Dawson's Doggie Crib Quilt

Wish I'd taken better photos of this baby quilt I made for my nephew.

It has hand embroidered doggies in 12 panels with hand-painted elements. I had a redwork pattern to start with...but didn't like how generic & uncute (is that a word?) the dogs were...so I redrew them in my own style. It took forever to do all that embroidery!

The piecing is also based on another pattern which I altered to make it more suitable for a boy.

This quilt is hand tied...after all the time & energy I had already put into it, I wanted to get it done before my nephew grew up!

Crochet progress...so frustratingly fun!

Ok...after my granny square nightmare I dared to seriously study some charts on the basic crochet stitches.
I then applied that knowledge towards deciphering a hat pattern another craftster had given to me.

It's slow going...although I've been told it should be faster than knitting...I have hope!
So far this has taken me around 3-4 hours to do just this much...after
crocheting...ripping out stitches...going back & crocheting more.
Checking the stitches...
studying the pattern...
...and this is supposed to be fun & relaxing?!!! A great way to reduce stress?!! One day maybe!

Free X-stitch Pattern! Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffanys"

For the love of Audrey & the story by Truman Capote! I absolutely love the movie...& can watch it anytime I catch it on TCM. I have it on dvd, but for some reason when it's just running on tv...I have to stop what I'm doing & sit down to watch. In the very beginning of the film when Holly Golightly is having her coffee in front of Tiffany's I wonder if NYC is really ever 'that' quiet so early in the morning. When I lived there...I don't recall it ever being so serene. Click on image to enlarge...print out...and get your stitch on!

What exactly is a jar of whimsies you ask?

I'm not exactly sure where it originated... perhaps at 'one good bumblebee' http://onegoodbumblebee.com/item.php?item_id=73&category_id=&n=0

Personally, I've had a few of these kicking around for years! It is a jar of charms, trinkets, doo dads, bobbles, & little things of interest! Over at craftster I joined their whimsy jar swap round 2.

Here is what I made for my partner... she has recieved it, so it is okay for me to post photos now without ruining her suprise!

I made this little charm bracelet to add to the jar from vintage/retro gumball machine cowboy charms.

And here is the jar full of wondrous suprise!

I won a contest!

Woo-hoo! (doing a little happy dance)

Over on Craftster.org they have monthly challenges... & I just won challenge # 29 which was to Craft your Childhood Hero!
I entered my 'Ode to Childhood' Treasure Table....which pays homage to some of the most wonderful children's book authors & illustrators that I admire.

This was my entry:

Ok...so here goes...My mother read to me a lot when I was a child…so it only stands to reason that my childhood heroes were & still are the glorious authors and illustrators of children’s books. Here is my table representing 4 of my favorites: Dr. Seuss & The Cat in the Hat, Maurice Sendak & Where the Wild Things Are, A. A. Milne & Winnie the Pooh, and Beatrix Potter & Peter Rabbit.

The legs of the table are carved from cedar posts and painted with acrylic paints & then sprayed with a clear coat to protect them.

The top of the table is home to all of my childhood treasures…some of which were thrown away by my mother during several of her cleaning ‘raids’ in my room….and then secretly rescued from the trash. I remember her calling it my ‘junk’…;).

I still treasure it…and get a warm fuzzy feeling when I look at the things inside.

The top of the table has an inlaid piece of .25” plexiglass…which can be lifted out for adding future treasures. Please let me know what you think...this is one of my most personal creations that I hold dearest to my heart...so comments are really appreciated! Thank you so much!

The prize is an amazing book by Aimee Ray entitled 'Doodle Stitching'...I love to do embroidery...so that book will come in very handy! Thank you Aimee for donating such an awesome prize!

Making Cool Stuff For Crafty Folks...

This is just an example of a new line of pendant necklaces I've been working on. They are custom pieces which are made as I get orders for them. I absolutely love that I'm crafting something for other crafters! Spread the craft! That's my motto! Well, for today that's my motto and I'm sticking with it!
I'm learning how to crochet...finally...Yay! It's really difficult for me because as a knitter...it just doesn't feel right having only one hook in my hand...
I keep messing up the stitches...and forget about tension! But I'm no quitter! I won't give up until I can make cute little crochet goodies for my babygirl! I have a dream!

The Resin Angels Smiled on Me Yesterday!

Been crafting up a bunch of new treats for a swap on craftster! So much left to do that I probably should be crafting and not sitting here at the computer typing!

I'm just relieved that my jar of whimsies made it to it's destination in one piece! You can never fully trust the USPS for beans! I sent a package of chocolates to my folks priority mail...after 11 days it arrived...looking like a rabid dog had played with the box! It wasn't even really recognizable as a box any more!

I digress.... Here is some resin fun I had shared with another craftster...she tatted the butterflies & I molded the pieces. She took them to another level by beading cabochons around the ones I sent back to her. I love how they turned out...

So I'm no computer whiz...and can't crochet either!

I lost my blog...actually it was flagged as spam or something...so then I couldn't log on. Well, I'm back...and I'll try to do better!

Just joined Ravelry! Woo-hoo! Hope one day to learn how to crochet, but I come from a family of knitters...so I'm really thrown off by working with a hook and only one hook seems odd. It feels really strange to hold yarn that is so familiar...but in a way that is so foreign. I've made the world's saddest looking granny square! At least it's a start!
